How a shipment works

Step 1: Find the right vehicle

Browse vetted transporters by price and availability, post your job and let them bid, or book space on a truck already scheduled for your route.

  • Quick selection · browse vetted transporters by price and availability
  • Broadcast · post your job, transporters bid
  • Scheduled route · space on a lorry already booked to Mombasa on Thursday

Step 2: Agree the price

Settle it in the chat, on a call or by voice note. You and the transporter confirm the same amount before anything moves.

  1. Customer: Can you take 600 kg to Mombasa on Thursday?
  2. Transporter, voice note: 0:09 · KES 18,000
  3. Customer: KES 16,500 and it's yours.

Step 3: Loaded, on the record

You pay up front and Beba holds it. Live photos at loading show exactly what left, and only then does half go to the transporter.

Step 4: Track every kilometre

Follow your cargo live on the map. Your receiver can too, on a web link, without needing the app.

The receiver follows the same truck on a secure web link, no app needed.

Step 5: Delivered, with proof

A live delivery photo and your receiver's signature confirm the drop-off. Only then does Beba release the rest of the payment.

Beba for Business

Your cargo needs truck space now. Finding trucks isn't the hold-up; paying the drivers is. Drivers want payment when they deliver, but your payments go through approvals, so the cargo waits. Beba takes the wait out.

  1. Tell us what needs to move, where to, and how many trucks it takes.
  2. We bring the trucks and drivers from the Beba network, so your cargo moves on your schedule.
  3. We pay the drivers on delivery. You pay one invoice, on your normal terms.

From a boda boda to a cargo plane. Each owner lists what their vehicles can carry; these are typical figures.

Drag a vehicle to turn it.

  • Boda boda

Parcels and small loads, up to about 100 kg.

  • Car

A few boxes or bags, up to about 300 kg.

  • Pickup

Around a tonne: furniture, produce, building materials.

  • Lorry

Roughly 3 to 15 tonnes, depending on its size.

  • Trailer

Full loads, up to about 28 tonnes.

  • Boat

Lake Victoria and coastal routes. Loads vary by vessel.

  • Cargo plane

Air freight for urgent or far-off cargo. Loads vary by aircraft.

Owners need the licences, permits and insurance their vehicles require to carry goods for hire.

On our roadmap

Every delivery makes the next one cheaper

Every completed job teaches Beba something: which routes run late, which trucks suit which loads, what a fair price looks like. More jobs mean better matching, fairer prices and fewer surprises, which brings more trust and more jobs. This is what we're building toward; none of it is running yet.

  1. Jobs
  2. Insight
  3. Better matching
  4. Trust

Illustration: a slowly turning ring with four nodes (jobs, insight, better matching and trust), with particles of delivery data speeding it up.

  • Smarter matching

The right truck for each load, learned from every past delivery.

  • Fairer pricing

Prices that reflect the real route, load and timing, not guesswork.

  • Swahili and Sheng voice agents

Dispatch by voice note and WhatsApp, the way drivers already work.

  • Live corridor updates

Routes, congestion and delays, so every trip is planned on what's really happening.

Questions

Something missing? Ask us directly.

What is Beba?

Freight infrastructure for East Africa. A marketplace that connects customers shipping goods with verified transport owners, and Beba for Business, which gets businesses' cargo moving with trucks and drivers from the Beba network and lets them pay on their normal invoice terms.

How does payment work?

You pay the full agreed amount up front in the app (M-Pesa included) and Beba holds it. Half goes to the transporter when the live loading photos are confirmed, and the rest only when your receiver signs for delivery. Fees are set out in our terms.

How do I find a truck?

Three ways: browse vetted transporters by price and availability, post your job and let them bid, or book space on a truck already scheduled for your route.

Who gets verified, and how?

Every transporter is checked before they can take your job: national ID, business registration, goods-in-transit insurance and proof of a physical base. Loading and delivery photos must be taken live in the app.

Can the receiver track the delivery without the app?

Yes. The receiver gets a secure web link that shows the truck live, and signs on the driver's phone at drop-off.

Is my cargo insured?

Owners must hold goods-in-transit insurance to be verified on Beba.

What if something goes wrong?

Our team reviews the evidence (the live photos, the chat and the GPS trail) and works it through with both sides. You can reach us from the app or at support@beba.africa.

What is Beba for Business?

For businesses that need truck space for their cargo but can't pay drivers on the spot because payments go through approvals. Tell us what needs to move and how many trucks; we bring the trucks and drivers, pay the drivers on delivery, and you pay one invoice on your normal terms.

Which vehicles can join?

Boda bodas, cars, pickups, lorries, trailers, boats and cargo planes. Owners need the licences, permits and insurance their vehicles require to carry goods for hire.

What can I send?

Most legal, non-hazardous goods: produce, stock, furniture, building materials and parcels. Dangerous goods, illegal items and anything that needs a special permit aren't allowed.

When does Beba launch?

The marketplace is in development and Beba for Business comes next. We'll tell the waitlist first.
